Lawns should be made of strong grass, which can bear the load.

Lawns are created to decorate trees.

The climate of the region plays an important role in choosing the grass. There are grasses resistant to drought or frost, grasses for mild climate and grasses for a wide climate range.

What you should do to arrange lawns?

1. Make the analysis of soil for fertility and acidity. The choice of grass depends on the composition of the soil. Bring in the fertilizer according to the recommendation of the laboratory.

2.Find out climatic belt and the most limiting effect on lawns in your area.

On the lawns of summer season, the grass grows well at the temperature above 68?F.
There are lawns of winter season. The grass on such lawns grows well at the temperature below 68?F.
There are transition areas where the grass of both cold and warm seasons grow. Those are regions from Central California to Virginia, Indiana and Ohio.

You should select the type of grass, which would meet the requirements of the climate and the composition of soils.

Analyze of particular climatic conditions and different destinations of lawns:

1.Decorative parterre lawn, playground in the sunny place in the South or South-West of the country.

annual plant bluegrassUse the annual plant bluegrass. This is the plant with thin straight leaves and creeping root. Bluegrass is undemanding towards soil, on moist lands it quickly covers gaps and spreads as a sheer thick carpet. It actively grows during spring and autumn when watering is regular. It grows badly in the shade.

There are shade resistant kinds of grass. Those are fescues of different sorts, such us red fescue or Florence fescue. Your lawn will stand the mechanical load and look nice.

Another type of grass is Bahia. It is undemanding towards soils, requires minimal watering. The exterior of the lawn is moderately green. The grass is short, barely stands mechanical load, destroys by frost, does not bear salty soils, and grows better in sunny places. Its leaves are very hard and that is why there can be problems with cutting. Argentina Bahia is more resistant to cold and has thick verdure.

bent grassBentgrass is resistant to drought. Bentgrass types have dark green rich color and each type has its own advantages. Creeping bent provides sheer coverage of the lawns and ousts weeds.

The colonial bent has become popular for sports lawns arrangement. Velvet bent got its name because after cutting it forms of dense velvet herbage.

All kinds of dwarf monkey grass, which come from the Middle East, are very resistant to drought. Some of them feel fine in the shade, while others bear fierce heat and sun. Monkey grass grows up to particular height of 10 to 15 inches. It is mown once a year, usually in March or at the end of February. The beautiful dark-green color of such grass decorates the lawn during any season. Most kinds of Monkey Grass are evergreen. They oust weeds from the lawn; are rarely exposed to diseases, and are undemanding towards the composition of soil.

Augustine grass is used in Southern regions with tropical or subtropical climate. If the weather is very hot and dry, it should be watered periodically.

2. Parterre lawn, playground for sports games in a sunny place in the north or north-west of the country.

Each grass type is suited for one or the other seasons. Genuine American origin grass is very hardy, often bears strong frost, undemanding and little subjected to diseases and pests.

Bermuda grass of North-American origin stands fierce frosts, but it grows unevenly, that is why cutting is required every season. Bermuda grass quickly spreads over the territory, it is very hardy towards mechanical load, it does not like shade. It stops growing and loses attractiveness when placed in shade.

Buffalo grass is the North-American grass. The bluish-green color of the grass attracts the attention of gardeners. However, this grass does not stand mechanical load. In order to look beautiful the lawns with buffalo grass need irrigation and frequent cutting.
Types as red fescue grass, creeping red fescue and hard fescue look wonderful and can handle the cold season. They are undemanding towards soil and cold resistant. By selecting best qualities of different grass you can plant grass mixes. Mixed lawns look better.

3. Parterre lawn, playground in transitional climate area.

You can use certain grass of both cold and warm periods and compose mixes of grass for better quality of the lawn. The reason is that during warm season grass of the warm period actively grows, and grass of the cold period becomes unattractive because of ceasing growth.

Fescue growsYou can sow thin fescue together with bluegrass or ryegrass. Fescue grows in shade and bluegrass likes sun and moisture, while ryegrass is endurable and grows quickly.
